Survey Export Header Cleaner

Turn a supported Qualtrics CSV export into a single-header CSV, with its question labels saved separately. Survey Export Header Cleaner is an offline browser tool for students and researchers preparing an export for analysis.

For supported exports, the cleaned CSV keeps your original column names, their order, and the text of each answer, while removing the extra rows containing question labels and ImportIds (Qualtrics import identifiers). Download those labels and identifiers as a separate CSV or JSON label map.

Use the download

Extract the entire ZIP, then open index.html in Chromium or Chrome on your computer. Choose one export, review the preview and notices, and save the cleaned CSV and label map. Processing stays on your computer: the app has no account, analytics, server, or survey-data upload, and works without an internet connection after extraction.

Limits

This is a header-layout utility, not a data-quality or research-validity checker. It does not remove duplicate respondents, fill missing answers, check consent, or anonymize data. It does not open XLSX, SPSS, or Qualtrics project files, and ambiguous or malformed layouts can be refused. An AI agent checked the tool with one small public CSV containing three header rows: column names, question labels, and ImportIds. Other layouts have only been tested with made-up examples.

Keep your original export and inspect the saved files before analysis. Repeated column names stay repeated. Formula-like cell text stays unchanged, so import untrusted data as text when appropriate.

The download includes the app, instructions, and Apache License 2.0. No subscription is required.
